Jumping from the gates well, the Heart’s Cry entire was settled in prime position within the pack by Hong Kong Premiership winning jockey Zac Purton, following a fair tempo set by early leaders Brambles, Sea Moon and Rising Romance.

Continuing to sit in ideal position three wide with cover over the back straight, Purton bean slowly pushing the six-year-old forward rounding the final bend, but more than had his work cut out for him in the straight when James McDonald found an ideal gap on the fence and cut the corner with Rising Romance.

Quickly spooling up, Admire Rakti stormed home down the outside; finding the fore of the pack with 100m to travel and finishing a comfortable length in the clear of the 2014 Australian Oaks champion; last start Turnbull Stakes victor and clear favourite Lucia Valentina running on for third.

Trainer Tomoyuki Umeda was understandably pleased with Admire Rakti’s performance for victory in the 2014 Caulfield Cup, revealing his runner has enjoyed his time in Australia and is confident of successful progression to his major target; the 2014 Melbourne Cup.

“He had a handicap of 58 and hadn’t done much big racing in Japan, but the horse likes Australia,” Umeda said immediately after the race.

“He (Zac Purton) rode the horse once before and he was perfect.

“It all depends on the owner, but the owner likes it here so hopefully next year we’ll come back again.

“Everything is going well, so hopefully this luck keeps going to the Melbourne Cup.”

Jockey Zac Purton delivered a typically strong ride on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and revealed he was always confident in success immediately after crossing the line.

“You only to look at his run in the Japan Cup to know he was going to be hard to beat today,” Purton said.

“I was able to get a lovely run in the race; three wide with a bit of cover – Japanese horses love that.

“Just bring him through with a nice clear run, I knew he was better than them and it worked out that way.

“It’s the way their trained and it’s the way the races are run over there; that’s what they’re used to so don’t break something that’s not broken.”
