My Ambivalent Could Miss 2014 Caulfield Cup

My Ambivalent could miss the 2014 Caulfield Cup after connections revealed that the talented mare had missed a couple of mornings of trackwork due to a stone bruise on her off fore foot.

Racing Victoria will monitor My Ambivalent in the next 24 hours before the 2014 Caulfield Cup barrier draw is conducted tomorrow afternoon, but assistant trainer David Eustace told TVN this morning that the daughter of Authorized could not afford to miss any more work and would be scratched from the race if she was unable to complete trackwork at Werribee tomorrow.

My Ambivalent may miss the 2014 Caulfield Cup, but you can still find the best odds for the Group 1 event with leading online bookmaker

“We’ll know in the morning whether we can go or not. If we miss another it would be unrealistic to try to get her to race Saturday,” Eustace said.

“She’s pretty fit and that bit of work Saturday put her spot on.

“If we can get a canter into her tomorrow or Wednesday and a sharp blow Thursday, she doesn’t need too much now.

“She was sound Saturday evening, but she was lame (Sunday) morning.

“We took her shoe off and she has a bruised foot.

“She was much sounder this morning, but wasn’t quite spot on.

We’re going to have to treat her again today and try to get that bruising out as much as we possibly can.”

The 2014 Caulfield Cup odds of My Ambivalent were slashed last week after the form of the five-year-old was franked in the Group 1 Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp on October 5.

My Ambivalent started her 2014 racing season with a third place finish behind Gentildonna and Cirrus Des Aigles, who beat Treve this preparation,  in the Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m) at Meydan on March 29 before she took out the Group 2 Middleton Stakes (2092m) at York on May 15.

The talented mare finished third behind Cirrus Des Aigles and Flintshire, who finished second in the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe, in the Group 1 Coronation Cup (2423m) at Epsom on June 7 before she produced a disappointing performance in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes (2011m) at Curragh on June 29.

My Ambivalent has also been included in the entries for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) and Eustace said that trainer Roger Varian would still like to run the mare in ‘the race that stops a nation’ even if she misses the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

My Ambivalent is now out to 2014 Caulfield Cup odds of $18, while Lucia Valentina ($5) remains a clear favourite from Bande ($8.50), Dandino ($11) and Admire Rakti ($12).
