Touted as a serious Cups contender in 2014 after finishing a close second to leading stayer Gold Ship in the Group 2 Hanshin Daishoten (3016m) in March, Admire Rakti has been confirmed in 2014 Caulfield Cup third acceptances.

Claiming six wins and a further eleven minor places from just 26 competitive starts so far, Japanese sensation Admire Rakti was a standout performer over his 2013 racing preparation, highlighted by a close second in the Group 2 Copa Republica Argentina (2514m) and fourth to Gentildonna in the Group 1 Japan Cup (2413m).

Returning to racing in similarly strong form this year, the Heart’s Cry entire was unlucky to be blocked for a run in the Group 1 Tenno Sho (3218m) most recently but has reportedly taken well to his time in quarantine and work since arriving in Australia.

Stamping her claims as a serious contender over three starts this time in, trainer Kris Lees has confirmed a position in 2014 Caulfield Cup third acceptances for Lucia Valentina.

Securing a commendable total of six wins and a further three minor places from just 12 competitive starts so far, Lucia Valentina began her racing career under the guidance of kiwi trainer Stephen Marsh before transferring to the care of Lees at the beginning of the year.

Running on to finish third in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) in her maiden Australian appearance on March 8th, the Savabeel mare appeared well and truly outclassed when finishing 12th in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) just a fortnight later; returning to the paddock after finishing third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).

Displaying an exceptional turn of foot to comfortably win in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) first-up this time, Lucia Valentina was unable to match the late pace of Sacred Falls when sixth in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) on September 20th, but gained clear favouritism in Caulfield Cup betting markets when winning the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) on October 4th.

A leading chance for the locals, trainer Chris Waller has included a total of seven of his stable stars in Caulfield Cup third acceptances, including in-form stayer Junoob.

Performing well over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Junoob won both the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) before finishing a credible fourth in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) and third in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m).

Steadily building to the task this time in, the Haafhd gelding beat just one runner home in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up, and while still only managing six in a field of eight in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), has well and truly found career best form in winning the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) and breaking through for a maiden Group 1 in The Metropolitan (2400m) on October 4th.
