Allocated a favourable handicap of just 51kgs for the October 18th feature race, trainer Kris Lees has confirmed classy kiwi import Lucia Valentina in second acceptances for the 2014 Caulfield Cup.

Securing an impressive total of four wins and three minor places from just 11 competitive starts so far, Lucia Valentina began her racing tenure under the guidance of trainer Stephen Marsh before transferring to Lees’ care at the begging of the year.

Finishing a credible third in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) in her Australian racing debut on March 8th, the Savabeel mare appeared completely outclassed when finishing 12th in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) on April 5th; returning to the paddock after finishing third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).

Displaying an incredible turn of foot to win the Group 2 Tramway Handicap (1400m) with ease first-up on September 6th, Lucia Valentina was unable to match the late pace of Sacred Falls in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) most recently on September 20th, but still laid a great account for herself in finishing sixth.

One of two leading Japanese stayers confirmed for a Cups tilt through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival alongside Admire Rakti, Bande won the Listed Sapporo Nikkei on August 10th and appears primed for a successful trip to Australia after arriving in quarantine in exceptional condition.

Claiming five race wins and three minor places from just 12 competitive starts so far, Bande is yet to finish outside the places in a total of four competitive starts this year, having won a minor over 2400m first-up on March 1st and finished third in each of his next two starts, including the key form indicator; the Group 2 Hanshin Daishoten Stakes (3016m), a race won by one of the world’s leading stayers Gold Ship.

Hitting career-best form to date over the 2014 autumn, trainer Peter McKay has confirmed Puccini will return to Australia during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival; accepting a position in 2014 Caulfield Cup second acceptances for the four-year-old.

Claiming six wins and four minors from just 18 competitive starts so far, Puccini was a standout in major New Zealand black type events in late 2013/early 2014, finishing fourth in the Group 1 2000 Guineas (1600m) in November before securing impressive wins in all of the Group 2 Great North Guineas (1600m), Group 2 Waikato Guineas (2000m), Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) and Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) most notably.

Finishing fifth in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) most notably in two Australian autumn starts, McKay is confident early form displayed by the Encosta De Lago entire this time in will translate to a successful Caulfield Cup tilt.

Stamping his claims as a serious spring contender over six starts for trainer David Hayes, Spillway has been confirmed in 2014 Caulfield Cup second acceptances.

Steadily building to the task over three starts in his maiden Australian racing prep through autumn which peaked with a comfortable win in the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate (200m) on April 26th, Spillway was unlucky to finish second in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) first-up this time before finishing fourth in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) on September 13th.

Requiring a race win to assure 2014 Caulfield Cup qualification, the Rail Link entire is likely to contest the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on October 4th.
