A standout performer over the 2014 Autumn Racing Carnival in Sydney, The Offer claimed favouritism for the nation’s headline race when comfortably winning the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on Day 2 of the inaugural The Championships on April 19th.

Immediately returning to the spelling paddock following that near-four length triumph, Waterhouse told the Daily Telegraph The Offer has enjoyed his time away from racing and has since returned to work in excellent condition.

“The Offer has pulled up super, and he’s such a strong big gelding.  Josh Parr rode him (in an exhibition gallop) and said he couldn’t hold him,” Waterhouse said.

Partnered by in-form hoop Tommy Berry in each of his three most recent competitive starts, Waterhouse said she had heard from the exciting jockey who is currently amidst a contract to ride abroad in Hong Kong, who reportedly cannot wait to return to the saddle of the Montjeu gelding.

“Tommy Berry was straight on the phone and said, ‘wow, doesn’t he look fantastic?’, and I said, ‘cool your heels, worry about him when you get home’.”

Claiming a total of six victories and five minor places from just seventeen competitive race starts to date, The Offer begin his racing career under the guidance of leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien during the early stages of 2012, securing several impressive results including a third amongst classy company in the Group 3 Curragh Cup (2816m).

Disappointing in his first two starts after arriving in Australia, the five-year-old out of Valdara quickly built to the task over a short 2013 spring; claiming minor places in minor events before winning the Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m) on November 24th.

Returning to racing in similarly positive form this year, the Offer finished third in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) before claiming back-to-back victories in the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m), Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap (2600m) and the Sydney Cup most recently.

Yet to be confirmed for any major event through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, The Offer is currently available at a generous quote of $15 in early betting markets for success in the 2014 Caulfield Cup; sharing the second line of betting with possible rivals Kirramosa and Lucia Valentina.
