It will be a tight squeeze for those at the bottom of the BMW $2.6m 2011 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) order of entry after a final list of
23 horses accepted for the race today.
The 2011 Caulfield Cup final field will be made up of 18 runners and four emergencies when released at 3.30pm (est) today.
The 2011 Caulfield Cup resembles a meeting at the United Nations with horses bred in six different countries competing.
But while the expectation for an overseas invasion of starters is the conversation for the Melbourne Cup, the 2011 Caulfield Cup
(2400m) has only four overseas trained horses Mighty High (Hong Kong), Manighar (England) Drunken Sailor (England) and Saptapadi (England) in the race.
Manighar and Drunken Sailor are trained by regular Melbourne Racing Spring Carnival regular Luca Cumani who is still looking for that
illusive Cups win in Australia.
The German import Lucas Cranach who is yet to run in Australia but goes into the 2011 Caulfield Cup with good reports from the Anthony Freedman yard.
There were no surprise omissions with the Lloyd Williams owned duo Midas Touch and At First Sight to miss the 2011 Caulfield Cup (2400m)
as expected.
Williams is relying on Green Moon getting the nod from Racing Victoria officials who now, will select the final field at their discretion.
Green Moon along with Macedonian and Spechenka, are all equally qualified down in 17th place.
The Queenslander, Spechenka has the most prizemoney but that may count for little come decision time.
Anudjaun and Lucky Eighty Eight are expected to make up the emergengies along with Midnight Martini for the 2011 Caulfield Cup (2400m).
While bookmakers have suspended betting until a final field is made, all is well with 2011 Caulfield Cup (2400m)
race favourite December Draw whose staying prowess will be questioned right up
to jump time on Saturday.
Cups King Bart Cummings will be aiming at his eighth Caulfield Cup with Precedence.
