Caulfield Cup Field 2011 Schedule & Dates

July 19th, 2011

The 2011 Caulfield Cup Field is expected to be one of the strongest ever with not only a host of Australian talent on the up but also plenty coming from overseas as well.

New Zealand as always will feature heavily in the Caulfield Cup nominations with the Europeans also likely to be on route.

Quarantine issues are still the major threat to their chances however officials maintain that they will be sorted out quickly enough for the foreign horses to arrive in plenty of time.

Expect to see a few more names added to the Caulfield Cup nominations late as well with the recent announcement of the Cranbourne Cup / Caulfield Cup bonus scheme.

As well as the normal prize money any horse which can win both the Cranbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup will qualify for a $2 million direct pay out.

It’s the biggest of its kind in Australia and one of the biggest anywhere in the world.

Back to the Caulfield Cup Field for 2011 though and more will be revealed Tuesday afternoon on August the 2nd.

That date is when Caulfield Cup nominations close with the relatively modest $350 fee due by connections.

Given the potential returns on offer it’s expected there will be a mountain of trainers throwing their hat into the ring with hundreds looking for a spot in the Caulfield Cup field.

To get a better idea of the schedule, the Caulfield Cup has one of the longest acceptance periods of any Australian race.

First declarations are due on Tuesday the sixth of September at a cost of $550.

Following that second declarations are due on Tuesday the 20th of September at $770.

Third declarations come out on Tuesday October fourth at $1,430.

The exact Caulfield Cup Field will be known on Tuesday the 11th of October after a final declaration and fee of $20,625.

One of the early favourites in the race is kiwi filly Scarlett Lady on the back of her Queensland Oaks dominance.

Look for her in the early markets available at SportingBet where you’ll get better odds now than after acceptances!
